IRS Form 433-F: Prepare Records And Check Monthly Figures
Which Form And Instructions Should I Use?
The official Form 433-F PDF currently carries a July 2024 revision and includes two form pages plus two instruction pages. Download it from the IRS rather than assuming that a search result labeled 2026 contains a new form revision. Check the instructions in your own request, including the due date and submission route.
Use the requested form, not whichever looks shortest. The comparison of the Form 433 family addresses the different versions. This page focuses on preparing records for 433-F; it does not determine which form your circumstances require.
What Records Should I Gather Before Filling It Out?
Set up a private preparation sheet with these columns: form section, figure, record date, supporting document, unresolved question and follow-up. This is an organizer, not a substitute IRS form. Keep sensitive identifiers in your secure records, not public comments or a consultation form.
| Form Area | Useful Records To Locate | Preparation Check |
|---|---|---|
| A: Accounts And Investments | Current account records and investment information | Identify the balance date and applicable personal or business account. |
| B And C: Property And Other Assets | Value support, loan balances and payment records | Keep current value, debt and payment as separate figures. |
| D: Credit Cards | Statements showing limits, balances and required payments | A credit limit is not a balance owed. |
| E: Business Information | Requested receivable and merchant-account records | Identify the records relevant to your actual business activity. |
| F And G: Income | Pay information and other household income records | Keep the pay frequency and reporting period visible. |
| H: Living Expenses | Recurring bills and payment records | Check monthly conversion and avoid counting the same cost twice. |
Read the official form for all required categories, including digital assets and accounts with no balance. Do not omit a required item because it does not fit the first available line. Use additional sheets as the instructions permit, and label them so the corresponding entry is clear.
How Do I Convert Non-Monthly Expenses?
Section H asks for monthly expenses. The current form instructions provide these conversion factors for expenses paid on other schedules:
| Expense Frequency | Monthly Conversion | Illustrative Example |
|---|---|---|
| Quarterly | Divide by 3 | $300 / 3 = $100 |
| Weekly | Multiply by 4.3 | $100 x 4.3 = $430 |
| Biweekly, Every Two Weeks | Multiply by 2.17 | $100 x 2.17 = $217 |
| Semimonthly, Twice A Month | Multiply by 2 | $100 x 2 = $200 |
These are expense-conversion examples from the form's method, not a calculation of what the IRS will allow or what you must pay. Do not apply a monthly expense factor to an employment field that asks for gross pay per pay period. Record both the amount and the period requested by that field.
Are Actual Expenses And IRS Allowances The Same?
No. The current IRS Collection Financial Standards distinguish national allowances from local limits. National food and related allowances and minimum out-of-pocket health-care allowances work differently from housing and transportation, where the allowed amount is generally the actual cost or applicable local standard, whichever is lower. Documented exceptions may be considered when standards leave inadequate means for basic living expenses.
Keep three columns separate in your organizer: what the records show you spend, the applicable standard or form instruction, and the question that needs clarification. Do not replace an actual bill with an invented number, assume every expense is deductible in collection analysis, or apply bankruptcy expense tables to an IRS collection statement.
How Do I Avoid Duplicate Or Unexplained Figures?
Mark the source beside each draft entry before transferring it to the form. For a bundled payment, identify what is included before listing separate components. If a record covers several months, note that period. If two statements describe the same account, reconcile them instead of automatically adding the balances.
For an unresolved figure, record the specific issue, the record needed, who can clarify it and the follow-up date. An unresolved question should remain visible until the evidence or IRS instructions resolve it. This preparation habit does not decide whether an expense is allowable.
What Should I Check Before Submission?
- Match the form version and response instructions to the IRS request.
- Trace entries to current records and check the periods and arithmetic.
- Review all applicable sections, additional sheets and requested supporting documents.
- Read the certification and check required signatures and dates.
- Keep a copy of the packet and its submission record; track any request for additional information separately.
Use the route specified by the IRS for your case. A worksheet, consultation or upload to an unrelated website does not submit the statement to the IRS. The form instructions explain that additional information may be requested after review.
Does Form 433-F Approve A Payment Plan?
No. Financial disclosure and an approved arrangement are different. The IRS payment-plan guidance explains available application routes and requirements. Follow the applicable instructions; do not assume everyone needs the same disclosure form. Interest and applicable penalties can continue, and an evaluation does not extend your IRS response date.
Our guide to organizing a separate IRS document request addresses another form. The FTC's tax-relief guidance explains the risk of promises made before agency review. You can contact the IRS directly or consult an appropriately authorized tax professional. CuraDebt's free evaluation reviews available options; it does not complete your statement or provide representation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is The Difference Between Form 433-A And Form 433-F?
They are different financial statements with different detail and instructions. Use the version requested for your case rather than substituting 433-F because it is shorter.
Can I Use An Old Expense Standard?
Check current IRS standards and the instructions for the requested form. Standards can change, and a table used for bankruptcy is not automatically an IRS collection allowance.
Are Biweekly And Semimonthly Expenses The Same?
No. Biweekly means every two weeks; semimonthly means twice a month. The current 433-F expense instructions use 2.17 and 2 respectively to convert those amounts to monthly figures.
Does Submitting Form 433-F Guarantee A Payment Plan?
No. Submission provides information for review. Approval and confirmed payment terms are separate, and CuraDebt evaluations do not replace the IRS response.
